Ujjwal Kala

Hi, I’m Ujjwal Kala, a 21-year-old from Delhi-NCR, currently pursuing my B.Tech in Information Technology at IIIT Bhubaneswar. I enjoy solving problems, exploring how technology works under the hood, cracking the occasional joke, and sometimes reflecting on the bigger questions of life.

To keep going, is the only possible way to win!

History

  • 2009
    First taste of computers on a Dell Inspiron 545s, spent years squeezing out performance to play games without a GPU
  • 2014
    Started modding games with custom assets. FIFA, GTA, Counter-Strike, you name it, I modded it.
  • 2017
    Dual-booted Kali Linux on a non-UEFI system; first hacker rush. Cracked a weak WiFi password with aircrack-ng (script‑kiddie era)
  • 2019
    High school: experimented with Python; then shifted focus to entrance exam prep.
  • 2022
    High school completed; wrapped up entrance prep.
  • 2023
    Joined IIIT Bhubaneswar (EEE). Spent first year deep into Linux ricing; moved to i3wm and Arch Linux while prepping the branch switch from Electronics and Electrical to IT.
  • 2024
    worked at Aveti Learning (first production Python); contributed to Plone; missed GSoC and spent the summer on GPU programming, OS fundamentals, and DSA.
  • Present
    mentoring juniors at P‑SoC IIIT Bhubaneswar, leveling up frontend, and strengthening CS fundamentals with projects

Present & Future

My fingers are currently dipped in a few different projects, but I seek to mostly build things that sharpen my CS fundamentals. Currently building a custom filesystem to serve as the storage layer for a distributed file storage system;
re‑creating my rayPong project with pure OpenGL (ditching raylib);
parking a few audience based ideas for later like a memeDB and a cross‑device YouTube controller (Spotify‑style);

all while juggling engineering coursework and mentoring juniors toward impactful open‑source contributions.

Fun

When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me sketching or experimenting with digital art. Other times, I’m busy losing endlessly to FIFA on legendary difficulty. If I’m away from my computer, I’m either reading or hanging out with friends, usually making completely senseless dad jokes.

Tools I use

Social Networks

Spending most of my teen years on the web, I recently switched my lifestyle to one with limited internet footprint. That said you can find me and my remains on most platforms with the handle @ujsquared. Below are some handles I'm currently active on.
